we did two present openings this year since jasmine was gone on Christmas. so the first set of pictures are with jasmine, and the next on real Christmas morning (and a few Christmas eve pics watching polar express and making cookies for santa)
Archive for December, 2012
i grew up in utah with tons of snow every Christmas, so it doesn’t really feel like Christmas time here in texas during december. the other day i was out doing last minute shopping in a t-shirt:/
van and i were just talking the other day about how much we wanted it to snow on Christmas. well today we all got our wish and it snowed! (now tomorrow it can melt. i’m good with just one day of snow.)
jas and i surprised van and checked him out of school early so he could go with us to take her to the airport. she’ll be in utah until new year’s. miss you already jas!
so here we are at the airport (and getting sodas beforehand), and getting the cool shot of the day: we sent the camera up the escalator with a 10 second timer while we stayed a little behind. it didn’t turn out that great, but jasmine wouldn’t let me try for a better one:/
then van and i did a few goofy shots before we headed back home, and he was being extra goofy in the car so i had to get some pics to prove that he does laugh sometimes (he tends to be mr. serious a lot)
van was playing with his friend the other night, and ran smack into a tree. ouch.
we weren’t sure how deep the cuts were, so we took him in just to be safe. it was late and all the instacare’s were closed, so we had to go to an after hours ER to get him looked at. turns out he didn’t need stitches or anything, and other than a fat lip for a few days he healed up just fine.
if you Google the significance of the number 12 you will be amazed. it appears to be the most important of all numbers. today the number 12 was repeated three times: 12/12/12 and will not be repeated again for a hundred years.
my dad sent all us kids an email a few weeks ago and challenged us to do something memorable on that day, something that we would never forget. his plan was to run the st. george marathon 4 times (he’s a crazy ultra runner).
anyways, i forgot about it until a few days ago but couldn’t think of anything to do. i talked to my dad this morning while he was driving home from his run, and i was again inspired to do something to mark this day.
it hit me when i started thinking of things that are related to texas.
so at about 9:30 pm tonight after the kids were in bed, jasmine and i drove downtown to the JFK assassination site to document our 12-12-12 moment. that’s a pretty memorable event right? only two presidents in the history of the united states have been assassinated, and we live about 30 minutes from the exact spot that JFK was shot. they even have an “X” in the middle of the road and everything.
i also thought it would be cool to look back on this and remember that we were texans on 12-12-12. what better way to mark that than at a world famous historical site.
we about killed ourselves doing it though, that’s a pretty busy road even at 10 pm. we had to wait for the stop lights, but even then we couldn’t see if cars were coming up to turn right. it took about 20 mins or so to wait for the perfect moment, then we ran out with the tripod, pushed the timer on the camera, posed real quick, and ran back. i honestly didn’t think it was going to work, but look at the cool shot we ended up getting! i was so excited!
we also got a shot of the famous 6th floor window where Lee Harvey Oswald was when he shot JFK, and a few other pics before the camera battery died. arg.
but at least we got our shot (even though i look like a blurry spiderman impersonator), marked this memorable day, and had a good time.
(i kinda like that daughter of mine. she’s fun to hang out with.)
